Story by Diana Taylor Thompson, PR Chair
As one of the nationwide Greater Federated Women’s Clubs, the Antlers Twentieth Century Club members recognized the National Day of Service that focused on identifying a local domestic problem and to help raise public awareness of the issue. This year’s focus is on food insecurity and hunger in the United States. The NDS was recognized on September 28th and clubs nationwide participated in projects to help provide food and resources to residents and families in their local communities.
Antlers Twentieth Century Club President Rebecca Birchfield said “We learned in our last club meeting that Pushmataha County is certainly not immune from the problem of hunger and food insecurity. Our club believes it does take all of us working together with concerned community leaders, public servants and compassionate neighbors to help solve hunger.” Local club members donated 73 pounds of assorted food items that were later delivered by club member, Glenna Hayes, to Antlers High School for their food pantry. This food pantry is used to help alleviate food shortages the students may face at home and includes food items that require little or no cooking preparation.
