GFWC Oklahoma Southwest/Central District meeting held in Duncan

GFWC Oklahoma’s Southwest/Central District’s annual meeting was held in Duncan on Saturday, September 20, 2025.  The meeting was hosted by the GFWC-OK Duncan Owl Club and the GFWC-OK Duncan Philomathic Club.

Patty Wininger, GFWC-OK Duncan Philomathic Club member and former Ward 3 Duncan City Councilwoman, welcomed the group to Duncan.  Each Club President presented a report on highlights of the 2024 club year and talked about activities planned for this club year.

GFWC Oklahoma President, Charlene Ridgway, was the luncheon speaker.  Ridgeway talked about what she had learned during summer meetings with the International Team, as well as at the Regional meeting in San Antonio.

The Done-in-a-Day project supported the Safe Center, a Duncan based non-profit that assists people in domestic violence situations with resources and support.  Virginia LaQuey, President of the Duncan Owl Club, gave a brief talk on the services provided by safe center and the importance of the group to Duncan and surrounding communities.  Items to donate to Safe Center were contributed by all clubs.

Officers for the 2026-2028 administration were installed.  Officers are:  President, Donna John, Sulphur Sorosis Club; Vice President, Anita Akin, Anadarko Philomathic Club; Secretary, Ginger Fitzgerald, Waurika Sorosis Club and Treasurer, Melody Hemingway, Duncan Owl Club.  The officers will take their new positions after the International Conference in June of 2026.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:45 p.m.
